Course Description

In this course students will learn to:

• Identify the five elements of the nurse-client relationship;
• Describe how nurses maintain boundaries within the nurse-client relationship;
• Discuss power inequality and how it affects the client;
• Discuss the steps to empathetic communication;
• Discuss the types of communication skills required for a successful nurse-client relationship;
• Identify strategies that protect clients from abuse;
• Understand legislative requirements related to Confidentiality and Privacy;
  
• To be knowledgeable about the primary concepts related to Confidentiality and Privacy;
  
• To understand the concepts and rules related to “Lockbox”;
  
• Determine who owns the information; and
  
• Learn what is considered Personal Health Information.
